Domestic violence is NOT a family matter. It is everyone’s business.

Image
This week I got inspired because I have seen a few friends share their personal stories about domestic violence or intimate partner violence and I thought 'wow, that took them a huge amount of courage to share'. I wanted to share another story of someone who experiences intimate partner violence. This is something I did while I was on the radio over in Germany for October's Domestic Violence Awareness month. It's really wild to see people's reactions to these stories because sometimes people think 'whoa that really happened?'. It's much more common than you realize.  The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) shares statistics on who experiences this type of violence. You can actually visit their website at  https://ncadv.org/statistics  to check the stats in your state specifically. Let's check these stats real quick:  ⤗ On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. ⤗ 1...

MH Chronicles: Addiction

Image
Hey guys! It's been a couple weeks. I think Marilyn is going through a leap or two so I've been unable to do pretty much anything on my own, to include weekends. I think this is the first evening I've been able to set her down! I did not want to go months without posting though, so I'm glad I am here now. I also haven't had much inspiration to write. I've been doing a lot of work on the new business adventure, which has been keeping me busy most of the time. (BTW I have a 10 man team since we last talked WHAAAT) Ok- moving on! I am going to start writing about what I'm actually a (somewhat) expert in- MENTAL HEALTH! Duh, why didn't I try this before? I get so excited about it. I'm going to call it the MH Chronicles, so people who don't want to open their brains can keep scrolling. I've been discovering some new (to me) music recently and Mike opened my eyes to Asking Alexandria's new stuff. Now, I was introduced to this band years ago ...

I didn’t realize I had so many OB/GYNs in my life!

Image
To quote a complete stranger, but wise woman named  Mariah Cocopoti, " I didn’t realize I had so many OB/GYNs in my life!" It was this image that one of my favorite mom friends posted. Mariah commented on it sharing a similar experience. In her testimony of WHAT ALL OF US go through, she shared the title of this post and I didn't even hesitate. I told her that it was my blog motivation because I've been literally experiencing this since kids started. I am probably subconsciously guilty of this with my friends who are having kids for the first time, but I actively try NOT to give dumbass recommendations. At the end of the day it's not ME who is taking care of these kids, right? I can't even count how many of these same things I have heard and no, I won't directly quote them this time, but I will share them! "If you hold her too much she will be spoiled." (She was a month old) "You should give her a bottle, she will get more food th...

My Story

Image
I have worked my ASS off for my degree. Student loans, transferring school, voluntary internships, job after job, driving 1.5 hours each way just to get to my fieldwork site- you name it! All for that degree in therapy so I can help people and teach them all the things. Well I earned it! A Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling. Time to keep working (9 years later) and get your license, because a small house worth of student debt, two degrees and a 10 year resume isn't enough to qualify me to do therapy. (HA) Should I start in Georgia? Probably not because I'll move halfway through the 3 year window. So we move to Maryland. Guess what? I don't meet their licensure requirements and guess what else? You can't work as a counselor in Maryland without a license. Long story short. I applied for my LAPC in Washington D.C. and plan on starting my journey towards licensure when it is approved. In D.C. Which is an hour commute. UGHHHH... As I'm stressing over th...

I don't fit in...or do I?

Image
Since starting up with this writing again I've been saving a bunch of things that I want to share on here. It is SO hard to organize my thoughts. I really have so many funny stories to share. I also have real time talk stories and some not so fun stories that I want to put up on here. I don't fully anticipate an audience, but I've already received some feedback from the select few people that caught my link in my post a few days ago. I have to admit I was a little nervous sharing, but I think I'm going full speed ahead to see what kind of traction I get! You're lucky, I'm super bored with my shows & my husband has been begging me to find a hobby. Maybe this is it. Let's talk about this photo. I started writing again because I have so much I want to say, but feel like I have no one to say it to...not like when I lived in Germany. You know it's true what they say about a military lifestyle- it's lonely. I mean don't get me wrong I've m...

Give yourself some credit

So where am I? I Googled myself today because I was applying to a remote position based off of a social media site. I thought it would be wise to check out my internet presence. If you haven't done this, I highly suggest it! My Twitter feed was the first thing to pop up. I haven't posted since 2015 but all of my life is there for anyone to see! Facebook did not pop up, surprisingly, but this blog sure did! I thought to myself 'Since I'm actively looking for hobbies & ways to make income and keep myself sane at home, why not start blogging again?' People magically make money off of being social media influencers and having tons of people read their blogs; maybe mine will be read that often too! (Pipe dream- clearly) Then I looked at my stats and shockingly enough one of the AdvoCare posts got over 4000 reads! That motivated me. I haven't written anything in this blog in years, not since we lived overseas. So this is my update and I don't think it will ...
